Love's Rapid Transit

With the possibility of terrorism on our mass transit systems highlighted by the London and Madrid tragedies, our vulnerability as public transportation users has been brought to the forefront. Love’s Rapid Transit is a take on a different type of vulnerability among the commuter culture on the Bay Area’s very own BART system. Keep your belongings close at hand…Focus on suspicious activities (who’s bag is that?)…Don’t let your eyes wander (damn, I made eye contact!)…Hey she’s reading the Da Vinci Code too…How come I’ve never seen her before?…There’s an empty seat next to her…Oh man, she’s getting off at the stop…Should I get off too?…No, she’ll think I’m stalking her…I know I’ll get on the same train tomorrow and the next day and the day after that and never say anything to her…Maybe I’ll put in a missed connection on Craigslist…I mean, what if I do make a move and it doesn’t work out?…I can’t put myself out there like that…I can’t put myself in that vulnerable of a position, you know…Damn, I missed my stop!

Love's Rapid Transit is a throwback film that utilizes guerrilla-style and experimental approaches in conjunction with narrative filmmaking. Very little dialogue combined with straightforward cinematography and sparingly few locations make this a minimalist project. The intent was to prove that a quality film could be produced in one of the most uncontrolled environments, on public transportation, with a crew of one.
